Behind the Craft
The Making of Yasmina
Celebrating Craft
Made with hand-turned legs and upholstery inspired by classic, vintage designs, Yasmina is a meeting of traditional Indian woodworking and textiles—two crafts the country is best known for producing.
Honoring Technique
Woodworking in India goes back to around 3,000 B.C.E. As it evolved, the craft picked up Islamic and European influences, resulting in a style that celebrates intricate carvings, inlays, and hand-hewn details.
Upholding Traditional Design
Yasmina is hand-upholstered using fabric we designed ourselves. Inspired by classic rug motifs, it speaks to our work with artisans in India—a culmination of our knowledge and celebration of traditional design.
Handcrafting With Care
Solid mango wood is hand-turned on a lathe to create Yasmina’s curved legs—featuring reeded detailing reminiscent of 19th century furniture—before fabric is cut to fit, hemmed, and upholstered by hand.
