Historic charm, regal grandeur, and winding streets full to the brim with bustling bazaars—Jaipur is alive with centuries of rich history and craft. After agriculture, craft is the second-largest employer in India, and it’s in Jaipur that craft flourishes—a legacy of the city’s Mughal heritage. Throughout Jaipur’s busy streets, you’ll find workshops dedicated to each unique trade—it’s here that metalsmiths, weavers, block printers, jewelers, potters, and furniture makers share their expertise.
In visiting the factories making pieces for our collection, we got to witness some of this firsthand. It’s mesmerizing to watch chair legs come to life on the lathe or pieces of pottery being sculpted and finished by hand.
The pieces—furniture, décor, and wall art—pass through many hands throughout the process, from initial construction to finishing details. Artisans finish solid pieces of wood on the lathe, coaxing it into curved shapes with deft precision—chair legs destined for a classic wingback silhouette.
Upholstery is completed by hand, start to finish. Fabric is measured, cut, and sewn, then attached to a prepared frame. The result is an accent reflective of centuries of furniture-making tradition behind it: an heirloom in the making, come home to you.
Pottery is hand thrown, as it’s been done for centuries—masterworks of art shaped on the wheel. Glazing and finishing are the final touches—and no two pieces are alike, each unique in their handmade variances.
When exploring the market stalls of Jaipur, you can trust that the craft you come across goes back centuries, the techniques and tools passed down through generations of families.
All of these processes echo techniques honed centuries ago, brought to life with materials from the world around, like native acacia and mango wood, plus EcoMix, a papier-mâché made from upcycled materials, used to create decorative, earthen vessels. These pieces are a reflection of Jaipur itself, crafted with accessible and eco-conscious materials that blend traditional and contemporary sensibilities. The results take a special place in our collection: prized pieces that come to life in your home.
